We live in interesting times. It is a time rich in portents of change: economic, social, political. Not just here in the colonies but all over the world. The changes in one place are affecting the stories in other places. It has spurred a renewal of this column. While the column was originally created to consider the tension between federal and state governing. The scope of the column itself must be reconsidered. The federal-state, in reality, is just one modality of the larger struggle for self-determination that persists within and beyond our borders.
This column is intended as an exploration of this matter. It may raise questions without answering them. It is as if we awake in midlife in a dark wood, without a compass and without a sage to guide us.
