Justice Ginsburg's a Rock Star. According to a 2015 Public Policy Polling nationwide survey, she is America's most popular Supreme Court Justice. She could have signed on for the Tibet Benefit or Farm Aid. Instead, she is using her celebrity to debunk Trump, a person whose presidency she considers unimaginable. Last week, she told three major news outlets, in essence, that Donald Trump should not be President. Her late husband would have moved away, she said. She called Trump a faker and incoherent; someone who says whatever comes into his head. Then she skewered the media for going easy on him for failing to release his tax returns.
Justice Ginsburg is more than a rock star, though. She's RBG -- a brand. She is using her brand to attack Donald Trump's brand. Rather than go into the fake water, fake steak, fake college and fake politics businesses, she's using her brand to protect the Republic.
Trump and his GOP strange bedfellows were appalled. "Highly inappropriate" ..."she crossed the line"..."a disgrace"..."she should resign"..."Her mind is shot!" The final comment is one of Trump's tweets. There's nothing soft-minded about Ginsburg. She knows what she is doing. She is exploiting her popularity and approval to bring home the message that Donald Trump and his message are bad for America.
Notorious.

If Clarence Thomas injected himself into the elections in this way he would be torn to shreds by the Clinton attack machine. I love her feistiness and admire her abilities. Along with her taste in art and clothes. I do not think a sitting SCJ should comment on an active election in this manner.
ReplyDeleteHer cry for Trumps tax returns? Who cares. I would be impressed if she asked for an explainition from Clinton about her unwillingness to provide ALL data concerning her ill gotten booty and destruction of evidence along with thrumping Trump.
I can personally vouch for the integrity of Trumps steaks. A little tough and gritty but loaded with flavor.
I always look forward to reading your summations Evan. Thx.
If Clarence Thomas did it, the left would shriek, just as the right is doing now. To be clear, the only thing she is not permitted to do is to comment on a pending case in the Court or one that she anticipates to be in the Court. Senators always try to elicit nominees' positions in appointment hearings, and the nominees decline to answer for that reason. Gee, I'd like to hear what Judge Garland thinks about this...but there is no one to ask him!
ReplyDeleteI don't have any objection to any of the Judges expressing their political opinion. The more information the better. ;~)
Two shrieks make a right?
DeleteIt's not the reality but shouldn't there at least be a veneer of impartiality.
If this election ends up with SCOTUS would she recuse herself.
Oh my head spins.
Ive had a long cherished theory that America gets the president it deserves.
On a side note. I am disappointed with Obamas response to what's happened. He is missing a profound opportunity. This is an "Ask not moment".
I hope some day we can meet for a Drink and shmooze.
